Pregnancy loss is a difficult situation for patients and care providers alike and care providers find themselves unprepared for what to expect when a loss occurs and how to appropriately respond and support their patients. This educational activity is intended to give insight to these situations and discuss appropriate behaviors and conversations.

  • At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
  • * Discuss appropriate ways to present bad news and discuss loss with patients and families
  • * Describe the value and importance of making memories
  • * Discuss ways to minimize the trauma a patient faces when returning to the clinic for follow up
  • * Identify opportunities to prepare all staff members for future encounters with loss families
  • * Demonstrate strategies in a subsequent pregnancy to support loss families
